Nájem

The Czech term for a lease, the legal arrangement where a property owner (pronajímatel) lets you use a flat in exchange for monthly payments (nájemné).

Nájem refers to the lease relationship itself, not the money. It's regulated by § 2235 and onwards of the Czech Civil Code. A written contract is required for any lease over six months.

Czech rental law strongly protects tenants. Notice periods, rent increases, and termination grounds are all spelled out in the Civil Code, and landlords can't unilaterally change them. If your lease conflicts with the Civil Code, the Civil Code wins.
