Real-time message translation: chat across Czech and English
DomuHQ chat translates between Czech and English in real time so you can message anyone, regardless of language. Toggle it globally or per conversation.
Why translate in-app
About half the Czech rental market communicates in Czech only. If you only speak English, that's a huge slice of listings you'd otherwise miss. Forcing yourself or the host into a second language adds friction and misunderstandings. In-chat translation removes the language barrier entirely; both sides talk in whichever they're comfortable with.
How it works
Behind the scenes, DomuHQ uses DeepL for high-quality EN ↔ CS translation. When auto-translate is on, every incoming message is translated to your app language; the original Czech (or English, if you've set the app to Czech) is one tap away under a "View original" link beneath each message.
Two places to toggle it
- Globally, in Preferences → Auto-translate Messages. Off here means no conversation auto-translates unless you re-enable it per-thread.
- Per message, long-press a message in any chat and pick Translate. Useful for the one Czech message in a thread where you don't want the whole conversation auto-translated.
When you might want to turn it off
- You're learning Czech and want the immersion.
- Both sides actually speak both languages and translation adds noise.
- The host's writing has nuance the translation misses (lawyer-y contract questions, sarcasm). View the original instead.
What auto-translate doesn't do
- It doesn't auto-translate documents (contracts, payment evidence). For those, use a separate translation tool or ask the host for a bilingual version.
- It doesn't translate property listing descriptions in the public listing view (those are written in one language by the host). For Czech listings, your browser's built-in translation handles it.
- It doesn't translate voice messages.
Quality notes
DeepL is well-regarded for Czech, generally better than Google Translate for the EN ↔ CS pair. Long messages translate accurately; very short messages with idioms or slang can read awkwardly. When in doubt, tap View original to check.
