Stay safe on DomuHQ: scams, reporting, blocking

DomuHQ verifies every user's identity and every listing's ownership. But scams still creep in elsewhere, here's how to spot them and how to report someone if anything feels wrong.

What DomuHQ does for you

  • Mandatory identity verification (Didit) before anyone can connect, message, or apply. No fake profiles get past the front door.
  • Lifetime Verified badge tied to a real identity, visible on every profile and message.
  • Property verification against the Czech Cadastral Registry (ČÚZK) for hosts, confirms ownership or right to sublet.
  • Reporting and blocking on every profile and conversation.
  • Platform-side content moderation.

Meet safely the first time

  • Meet in a public place first if possible, a café near the property, not inside it alone.
  • Tell someone where you're going. Share the host's profile link with a friend.
  • View the property in person before paying anything. Never wire money on photos alone, even if it's "just a deposit".
  • Trust your instincts. If something feels off after the viewing, walk away. There will be other flats.

Scam red flags

Scammers on housing platforms have a pattern. Watch for any of these:

  • Asked to pay deposit or first month's rent before viewing.
  • Pressure to decide instantly ("three other people are interested, I need an answer by tonight").
  • Pressure to move off-platform (WhatsApp, Telegram, plain email) before you've established trust.
  • Prices that are 30%+ below the market for the neighborhood and layout.
  • Requests for money by international wire transfer, gift cards, crypto, or any non-Czech bank channel.
  • Photos that look like they were lifted from real-estate stock sites (reverse-image search if unsure).
  • Host can't answer basic questions about the property (when was it renovated, what does heating cost, what district is this exactly?).
  • Refuses to use DigiSign or any electronic-signature system that creates an audit trail.

Two or more of these = walk away. Never send money to someone you haven't met and verified.

Report and block

Anywhere on DomuHQ, you can report a profile or a conversation via the … menu, or via Profile → Help & Support → Report a Problem. You'll be asked to pick a reason and add context.

Reasons available: Inappropriate Content, Fake Listing or Scam, Harassment, Discrimination, Spam, Other. Attach screenshots if you have them. Reports go to our trust-and-safety team.

Blocking cuts contact immediately. The blocked user can't message you, see your profile in matches, or apply to your listings. Blocking is separate from reporting, you can block without reporting, or report without blocking. For serious incidents, the … menu also has Block and Report, which does both at once and is permanent: it closes the chat for both parties, disables the Connect button on the user's listings for you, and auto-cancels any active application you have with them.

Response times

  • Standard reports, within 24 hours.
  • Urgent reports (subject line "URGENT" to support@domuhq.cz), within 2-4 hours.
  • Immediate physical danger, call 112. Don't wait for us.

Privacy controls beyond reporting

Privacy controls in your profile let you adjust what's shown publicly: profile card display (full photo vs half), language settings, and lifestyle visibility. The Verified badge is always visible; your photo is visible to matches once you're verified.

Frequently asked questions

  • What if I already paid a scammer?

Report to DomuHQ immediately (subject URGENT). Then file with Czech police (158 or in-person at any station), they have an established process for online fraud. Banks can sometimes reverse very recent transfers; contact your bank within 24 hours. We'll provide any platform records they request.

  • Will the person I reported know it was me?

No. Reports are confidential. The reported user is told there's been a report against them and what category, but never who reported them.

  • Can I report someone outside DomuHQ?

Our reports only cover DomuHQ activity. If someone moved you off-platform and then scammed you, file with Czech police (158) and your bank. We can still freeze their DomuHQ account if you report, that protects the next person.
