Take the roommate compatibility quiz
The quiz takes about 5 minutes and powers your match score with every other roommate-seeker on the platform. Here's what it asks and how to answer it well.
What the assessment is
When you create a Roommate profile, you take a personality assessment, 20 questions drawn from a 110-question bank, based on the Big Five (OCEAN) personality model. It takes about 3–5 minutes. DomuHQ uses its own profile and result names rather than Myers-Briggs codes.
You also set lifestyle preferences: cleanliness, sleep schedule, noise tolerance, guest policy, smoking/drinking, pets, hobbies, and interests. These drive who you match with, together with personality, they form your compatibility profile.
How match scores work
Every roommate profile shows a compatibility score with you, based on personality and lifestyle alignment rather than just photos and tags. The model deliberately doesn't measure "are you similar?", it measures "would living together work?". Two introverts can clash on cleanliness; two extroverts can clash on sleep schedule. The score finds the everyday-overlap that matters.
Why honest beats aspirational
It's tempting to answer how you wish you were rather than how you are. Don't. The match score is a tool you use to find compatible people, if you fake being cleaner and more social than you are, the matches it surfaces will be people who'd quietly hate living with the real you.
The single best signal is honesty. The model handles mismatches and trade-offs gracefully, it just can't fix wrong inputs.
What others see
Your raw answers stay private. Other users see a single match percentage on your profile card, plus a small set of "highlights" (e.g. "Same sleep schedule", "Both quiet at home"). They never see things like your specific bedtime or cleanliness rating.
Basic vs Plus: previews vs full
Free (DomuBasic) users see preview compatibility scores, enough to know who matches well, not enough to act on. To actually connect, message, and apply, you need to be on DomuPlus or above and identity-verified. Upgrade any time from Profile → My Hub → Manage Subscription.
Can I retake it?
Yes, any time. There's no cooldown. You should retake it after a major life change (new job, switching from remote to office, getting a pet). Retaking the quiz updates your match score with every other user instantly.
Step-by-step
- 1
Open the matching section
5 secondsFrom the home screen, tap Find roommates, then Take the quiz. If you've taken it before, the same entry shows Retake the quiz.
- 2
Pick your honesty mode
10 secondsBefore the quiz starts, you'll see a short reminder to answer for how you actually live, not how you'd like to. Acknowledge and continue.
- 3
Answer schedule questions first
1 minuteSleep window, weekday/weekend rhythm, work hours, work-from-home frequency. These have the biggest weight in the match score, so they come first.
- 4
Answer habit questions
2 minutesCleanliness, cooking frequency, dish handling, smoking, alcohol at home, guests, parties, pets. Use the slider, don't default to the middle if you actually have a clear preference.
- 5
Answer social questions
1 minuteHow social you are at home, whether you like roommate dinners, whether you prefer to keep things businesslike. Especially important for finding people who match your energy, not just your schedule.
- 6
Review and submit
30 secondsYou can scroll back through and change any answer. Hit Submit when you're done. Your match scores update across the platform within a minute.
Frequently asked questions
How many questions does the quiz have?
20 questions, randomly drawn from a 110-question Big Five (OCEAN) bank. It takes most people 3-5 minutes the first time.
Is it like Myers-Briggs?
No. The model behind it is Big Five (Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Neuroticism), a research-validated framework for personality. We use our own labels for the resulting profile rather than Myers-Briggs codes.
Can I retake the quiz?
Yes, any time. No cooldown. You should retake after a major life change, new job, shift between remote and office work, getting a pet. Match scores update across the platform within a minute.
Are my answers visible to other users?
No. Your raw answers stay private. Other users only see your overall match percentage and a small set of highlights. Specific values like your exact bedtime or cleanliness rating are never exposed.
Why do I see preview scores but can't connect?
You're on DomuBasic (free). Preview scores show who matches well, but you need DomuPlus or above plus identity verification to actually connect, message, or apply. Upgrade from Profile → My Hub → Manage Subscription.
